Link products
A Link is the simplest product type Klixey has. It's a card on your storefront that, when clicked, takes the visitor to a URL you set. No checkout. No payment. No email collected. No customer account. It's literally a link.
Quick answer
Create a product → pick Link. Set a title, description, target URL, and a thumbnail. Publish. The card shows up on your storefront and clicking it sends the visitor straight to your URL.
What it's for
Use a Link product when you want a card on your storefront that sends visitors elsewhere — same idea as a link in a link-in-bio page, but living inside your store.
Common uses:
- A card pointing at your YouTube channel or podcast ("Watch on YouTube", "Listen on Spotify").
- A card linking to your other store or your affiliate referral.
- A card pointing at a press kit, media kit, or about page hosted elsewhere.
- A card linking to your personal site or portfolio.
- A card linking to a third-party booking page (e.g. a calendar tool you use outside Klixey).
If you're not sure whether to use a Link or a digital download with external link delivery, use this table.
Link vs external-link digital download
The two look similar from the outside — both send the visitor to a URL — but the customer journey is different.
| Use a Link when... | Use a Digital download (external link) when... |
|---|---|
| You want the visitor to go to the destination immediately — no email collected, no checkout, no purchase record. | You want to collect their email or charge for the click-through. |
| Linking out to your other store, your YouTube, your podcast, your personal site. | Selling a Notion template hosted on Notion, a Gumroad-hosted file, or any external resource where you want a sale or a contact captured. |
| You don't need to know who clicked. | You want each click on the customer list (or in your revenue). |
Picking the wrong one is easy to undo — delete the product and create the other type — but most of the time the rule of thumb is: if it's free and you don't need an email, it's a Link.
Creating a Link
From your store editor:
- Click Add product.
- Pick Link from the product type cards.
- The new product opens in the side panel — the same panel that edits the title, description, slug, thumbnail, and target URL for every product type. There's no separate editor for Links because there's nothing more to configure.
Fill in:
- Title — what shows on the card (e.g. "My YouTube channel", "Book a discovery call").
- Description — one or two lines underneath the title.
- Target URL — where clicking the card sends the visitor (e.g.
https://youtube.com/@yourname). - Thumbnail — the image on the card. Same size and shape as every other product card on your storefront.
That's it. There's no checkout copy to write, no confirmation page, no banner, no settings tab.
Status
Link products use the same draft / listed / unlisted statuses as every other product:
- Draft — invisible on the storefront. Use this while you're setting it up.
- Listed — the card shows on the storefront.
- Unlisted — published, but hidden from the storefront. Less common for Link products; useful if you want to keep the URL slot reserved but not show the card yet.
See product status for what each one does.
Editing
Everything is in the product side panel — title, description, slug, thumbnail, target URL. Make a change and it saves itself; the next visitor to your storefront sees the update.
To change where the link points, just update the target URL. There's no migration, no "old links keep working" — the next click goes to the new destination.
What customers see
A Link product looks like every other card on your storefront. The visitor sees the thumbnail, title, and description.
When they click, they go straight to your URL. There's no Klixey confirmation screen between the storefront and the destination — the click is the action. (That's different from external-link digital downloads, which do show a "you're leaving Klixey" screen because money or an email has just changed hands.)
Where the link opens
Link products open in the same tab by default — like clicking any other product card. If the destination is your own site or YouTube, that's usually what you want. If you'd rather not lose the visitor from your storefront, link to a page that opens its own new tabs (most YouTube channel links and podcast pages will let you stay on the page after the click).
Why use Klixey for a link?
If you only have one or two external links, a tool like Linktree might cover it. The case for putting them on your Klixey store:
- Everything lives in one place — your audience clicks one URL and sees all your offers (paid and free) alongside your external links.
- Cards look consistent with your paid products, so the storefront feels designed, not patched together.
- You can mix Link cards with course cards, community cards, downloads, and lead magnets. Re-order them by dragging.
- One brand, one URL, one set of analytics.
For most creators on Klixey, the storefront becomes the link-in-bio page too.
Roles
Anyone with the editor, admin, or owner role can create and edit Link products. See roles and permissions for the full table.
