Contact limit and grace period
Lifetime plans cap how many contacts you can have. Subscriptions don't — Pro and Scale are unlimited. This page covers what happens as you approach and reach the cap on a lifetime plan.
Quick answer
If you're on a lifetime plan, Klixey emails you at 80% of your contact limit so you can plan ahead. Hit the limit and you get a 14-day grace period where signups still work, with reminders along the way. After grace, new signups are paused — your existing customers keep everything they bought. Upgrade anytime to clear the over-limit state immediately.
What counts as a contact?
A contact is anyone who becomes a customer of your store — they bought something, joined a community, booked an appointment, or claimed a free download. Team members don't count.
The exact numbers per plan are in Plans → Contact limits.
Stage 1: Approaching the limit (80%)
When your contact count crosses 80% of your plan's cap, Klixey sends you a heads-up email. The subject line tells you the percentage.
You don't need to do anything yet — your store is operating normally. But this is the right moment to decide whether to upgrade before you actually hit the limit.
You can also see your usage anytime on the Plan & billing page — there's a usage bar per workspace.
Stage 2: At the limit — grace period starts
The moment a customer signup pushes you over the cap, Klixey:
- Sends you an email letting you know you've hit the limit and that a 14-day grace period has started.
- Keeps accepting new customer signups for those 14 days, business as usual.
Why a grace period?
Your business doesn't stop just because you crossed a threshold. The grace period gives you 14 days to either upgrade or trim your customer count — without losing signups in the meantime.
Stage 3: Grace-period reminders
During the 14 days, Klixey sends two reminders:
| When | What it says |
|---|---|
| 7 days in | "You have a week left to upgrade before new signups pause." |
| 1 day before expiry | "Last chance — signups pause tomorrow unless you upgrade." |
These are nudges, not alerts. Your store keeps working through both.
Stage 4: Grace expires
If you reach the end of the 14-day window without upgrading:
- A final email goes out: "Your grace period has ended. New customer signups are now paused."
- New customer signups on your store are paused — when someone tries to buy or sign up, they see a friendly message and the action is blocked.
- Existing customers keep their access. Everything they bought continues to work — courses, communities, memberships, downloads. Nothing they paid for is taken away.
Stage 5: Over-limit daily digest
While you're past grace and over the cap, Klixey sends you a daily digest email summarizing how many signups were blocked yesterday. It's there so you see the business impact and can decide whether to upgrade.
If nobody tried to sign up, you don't get the digest that day.
Clearing the over-limit state
The fix is the same regardless of whether you're in grace or past it:
- Upgrade to a higher lifetime tier that fits your customer count, OR
- Switch to a subscription (Pro or Scale — both have unlimited contacts).
Either change clears the over-limit state immediately. Signups resume the moment your new plan is active. There's no delay, no reset period — your store goes back to normal right away.
Open Workspace settings → Plan & billing → Manage to upgrade. See Managing your Klixey plan for the walkthrough.
A note on trimming
You can also reduce your contact count by deleting customers from your customer list. Deleted customers don't count toward the cap. Be careful — deleting a customer also removes their access to anything they bought from you. If you have inactive customers who never engaged, that may still be the right call.
In most cases, upgrading is the simpler answer.
