When a bank asks to confirm a payment

Sometimes — usually for European cards or for higher-value purchases — a bank wants a second confirmation before letting a payment through. This is Strong Customer Authentication (SCA), a banking rule designed to cut down on card fraud.

When it happens, a short extra prompt appears right inside the Klixey checkout page.

What creators should know

You'll meet SCA yourself when you first sign up for a Klixey creator plan, and any time you change the payment method on an active subscription. Your bank may ask you to confirm the charge before it goes through — approve the prompt and the payment completes.

It's worth knowing how this works because your customers hit the same step at checkout, and they may ask you about it.

What it looks like at checkout

After the card is entered and Pay is clicked, instead of completing immediately, Klixey shows a popup from the bank with one of:

  • A push notification to the bank's mobile app to tap Approve.
  • A one-time code the bank texts or emails, typed back in.
  • A fingerprint or face-ID prompt from the bank's app.

Once it's confirmed, the payment completes and checkout continues to the confirmation page.

Verification stays inline

There's no redirect to a separate bank website — the prompt opens right inside Klixey, and the payer lands back on the confirmation page as soon as the bank approves.

If verification fails

Banks can refuse a payment for a few reasons:

  • The code or app prompt timed out before it was confirmed.
  • The wrong code was entered.
  • The bank flagged the purchase as suspicious.
  • The card isn't enrolled with the bank for this kind of payment.

Klixey shows the reason in plain language and offers two options: try again (re-enter the code or re-approve the prompt), or use a different card.

Repeated failures

A payer who keeps failing verification should contact their bank — they're the ones blocking it, not Klixey or the creator. Banks can usually clear a flag in a couple of minutes over the phone.

When it shows up

Bank verification doesn't appear on every payment. It's more common when:

  • The card is European (the SCA rule is required across the EU and UK).
  • The purchase amount is higher than usual for that card.
  • It's the first time the card has been used on Klixey.
  • The bank's own fraud-detection rules want a second check.
